Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know

Common questions about our battery power systems, rental process, and how we can support your project.

General

What does Greenwave Rentals do?

Greenwave Rentals provides professional battery power systems as an alternative to traditional diesel generators. We deliver, set up, and support silent, emission-free temporary power for film productions, live events, construction sites, hospitals, and other facilities across Western Canada, Toronto and the GTA, and Los Angeles.

How is battery power different from a diesel generator?

Battery systems supply stored electricity without engine exhaust at the point of use. They can reduce generator noise and fuel handling, but still need charging, suitable ventilation and a setup matched to the load and site. Indoor use depends on the specific equipment and site requirements.

What areas do you serve?

We currently deliver and support battery power systems across Western Canada — including Vancouver, Kelowna, Victoria, Whistler, Calgary, and the BC Interior — as well as Toronto, the GTA, and Los Angeles. Our Toronto service base is a shared co-space with Sunbelt Rentals Film & TV at 800 Islington Ave., Etobicoke, ON M8Z 6A1, Canada. See our Toronto production, event, and facility power pages. Contact us to confirm delivery and equipment availability for your dates. If you're outside these areas, contact us and we'll do our best to accommodate your project.

What industries do you serve?

We serve three primary markets: Infrastructure & Backup Power (hospitals, construction, cold storage, data centers), Film & TV Production (gaffers, location managers, production coordinators), and Live Events & Weddings (festivals, corporate events, outdoor weddings).

Equipment & Specs

What equipment do you offer?

Our fleet includes the VOLTstack 2K (2.4kW continuous, 2.8 kWh, 190 lbs), VOLTstack 5K (4.8kW continuous, 5.6 kWh, 330 lbs), Apollo 5K (3kW pure sine, expandable to 32.28 kWh), and the trailer-mounted VOLTstack 20K delivering up to 20.4kW. We also offer the SUNstack 200 portable solar panels. Visit our Equipment page for full specs.

How much power can your units provide?

Our systems range from 2kW to over 20kW continuous output. Units can be linked together in arrays for larger loads — for example, multiple VOLTstack 5K or Apollo 5K units can be combined to power demanding equipment setups. The Apollo 5K with expansion batteries delivers up to 32.28 kWh of capacity.

What type of batteries do your units use?

Battery chemistry and safety certifications are model-specific. The Apollo 5K uses LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate). Ask us for the specifications and certification documentation for the exact equipment proposed for your rental.

Are the units truly silent?

Battery systems avoid combustion-engine noise, but cooling fans and other components can still be audible. Noise depends on the model, load, charging state and placement. Tell us about dialogue recording, guest areas or other sound-sensitive spaces so we can plan the setup.

Can you provide split-phase or three-phase power?

A single Apollo 5K provides 120 V output. Hysolis specifies two Apollo units with compatible combining equipment for 240 V split-phase, and three units for three-phase. An adapter alone does not provide these outputs. Contact us to confirm the available rental configuration, voltage, connections and load before booking.

I'm not sure what size I need. Can you help?

Absolutely. You can use our Power Planning Tool to estimate your power requirements, or request a free power assessment and our team will review your specific needs and recommend the right equipment.

Rental Process

How does the rental process work?

It starts with a free power assessment — tell us about your project, power needs, and timeline. We'll recommend the right equipment, provide a quote, and coordinate delivery. Our team handles setup, and we provide full support throughout your rental period.

How quickly can you deploy?

Our units are self-contained and operational in under 15 minutes. No setup crew is required, no fuel connections, and no permits for fuel storage. For planned projects, we recommend booking as early as possible to ensure availability.

What rental durations do you offer?

We offer flexible rental terms — from single-day rentals for events and shoot days, to weekly and monthly terms for productions and construction projects, to ongoing arrangements for facilities requiring continuous backup power.

Do you deliver and pick up the equipment?

Yes. We deliver fully charged units directly to your location and pick them up at the end of your rental. Our team can also assist with on-site positioning and setup to ensure everything is ready when you need it.

How long does a charge last?

Runtime depends on your power draw. For example, a VOLTstack 5K at half-load can run for several hours on a single charge. For multi-day projects, we can arrange battery swaps or provide additional units. Our Power Planning Tool can help you estimate runtime for your specific equipment.

Film & TV Production

What productions have used Greenwave equipment?

Our battery systems have powered major productions including The Mandalorian (Disney+), No Time to Die (MGM), Percy Jackson (Disney+), Fire Country (CBS), Virgin River (Netflix), War for the Planet of the Apes (Fox), and many others. See our full Film & TV page for details.

Can your units power ARRI lights and large lighting setups?

Yes. Our units deliver pure sine wave output and can power ARRI Skypanels, Kino LED, Cineo, LitePanels, and HMI ballasts. A single VOLTstack 5K or linked Apollo array can run entire lighting setups. Our team can help spec the right configuration for your lighting package.

Will battery power help us shoot in restricted locations?

Absolutely. Battery power eliminates the noise complaints, fire marshal requirements, emissions restrictions, and fuel storage permits that prevent diesel generators from being used in many locations. This opens up indoor spaces, underground parking, residential neighborhoods, parks, and environmentally sensitive areas.

Safety & Certifications

Are your units certified for indoor use?

Battery operation produces no engine exhaust at the point of use. Indoor suitability still depends on the model, certification documents, ventilation, clearances and site rules. We review the proposed equipment and setup with you; a battery system is not automatically approved for every indoor space.

Is LiFePO4 battery technology safe?

Battery systems still require correct handling, charging and installation. Protection features and operating limits vary by model. Follow the supplied instructions, keep required ventilation and clearances open, and contact our team if a unit is damaged or behaves unexpectedly.
